$133 a month more on subscriptions than people think they spend. Pairly is the list.

Sharing the bills without sharing everything

Sharing costs and merging finances are two different decisions, and they get treated as one. Plenty of households want a clear shared picture of the rent and the bills, and want their own spending to stay their own β€” those two wishes are not in conflict, though a lot of tools make them feel like they are.

The same question comes up about bank connections. Linking accounts is convenient and it also means every personal purchase either of you made is now in a shared view, whether or not it was ever anybody else's business. That is a real trade with a real cost, and it is worth making on purpose rather than by accepting a default.

These posts cover the joint account question, what partial merging looks like in practice, and what to consider before connecting anything.

Pairly holds the rent, the bills and the subscriptions for two people, splits them the way you agreed, and shows the same picture to both of you. No bank connection, no card to start.
