The bills that arrive without anybody deciding

A subscription is the only kind of bill that renews without anybody choosing to renew it. That is the entire product design, and it is why they accumulate: every one of them was a reasonable decision on the day it was made, and none of them has been revisited since.

Between two people, they get harder to see. They sit on whichever card was nearest at signup, so neither person has the full list, and each of them assumes the other is on top of the ones they cannot remember. The total is genuinely surprising for most households the first time it is written down in one place.

Nothing here will tell you that a subscription is a waste of money. What you enjoy is your business. The useful thing is knowing what the list actually is and what it comes to in a year, because a decision you never made is not a decision.
